The chi of Portland: High weirdness in Nirvana

The Associated Press: The chi of Portland: High weirdness in Nirvana

When we lived in Colorado, people used to refer to Boulder as the Republic of…  I tried to tell them that Boulder was tame compared to the Pacific NW – Portland and Eugene in particular.  Since most of those people related more with James Dobson and George Bush, they really didn’t care about my free spirited roots.

That’s OK, I’m home now and I can live in open-minded peace.

Too bad the above article didn’t mention some of the non-weird treasures of PDX.

Looks like the AP did a typical fine job:

    1. The Church of Elvis is open again, live and real-time.

    2. Portlanders (all true Oregonians, for that matter) don’t use umbrellas.

The dateline says “Portland” and the writer seems to write an occasional story about the NW and Portland, but this guy probably wrote this sipping a latte in some ubiquitous Starbucks in Southern California thinking he could quickly gin up a story from a collection of hick facts found on the interwebs.

But I think he got the gist of Portland and even included some nice things; he mentioned the roses….
