Growing and Glowing
We have passed the half-way point. 23 weeks and counting. Jen is getting to the point where strangers and mere aquaintences are wondering if she is pregnant or just fat. They stare at her belly and then look into her eyes as if they haven’t been let in on this great secret. Then they repeat that process a few times. If Jen deems them worthy of the information, she’ll let them know the truth. Most of the time she keeps it to herself.
But she really doesn’t show very much. A combination of her petite size and her healthy eating habits have worked together to keep her looking small. But I can’t help but think she is even more beautiful than when I first met her 4 1/2 years ago.
The baby continues to kick and move around. Sometimes I get to put my hand on her expanding belly and feel the little critter moving around in there. Other times, right after a big kick is reported by Jen, I rush over to feel, but it doesn’t move.
A couple of minutes ago I went to put my arm around her and was surprised by her expanded girth. Because she really doesn’t show much, I am often surprised. She says she too is surprised sometimes, like when she goes to lean against the kitchen counters. In a few weeks, she may need longer arms!
I stil can’t believe we’re going to be parents. This is almost too much to comprehend.
I pray, daily, that God prepares me for the repsonsibilities of parenthood.
Yikes!

The Wife is in Love with Someone New
A few days ago I watched The Wife as she looked at the pictures from our ultrasound. It wasn’t the first time she had studied them — lingered over them. In fact, she carries them with her to work, to meetings, to church, and just about anywhere she might see someone who hasn’t seen the pictures.
As I watched her, it suddenly dawned on me. She’s falling in love. I don’t know why I didn’t notice it before. The signs are classic. Daydreaming, spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about this baby. Every conversation is about the baby. Every activity is about the baby. She is in love with this baby!
It is the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. It just makes me fall that much more in love with her. To see her so in love with our child is the most awesome incredible thing I’ve ever seen.
Who says kids are restictive. My life has been expanded already and the critter hasn’t even been born.
Still Using Gender Neutral Pronouns
The baby started kicking about a week ago — that is exciting.
We had our first (and possibly only) ultrasound last Monday, but the little critter was shy and we still don’t know what gender “It” is.

Stay tuned for more news...
